Abstract
The congenital esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula require prompt surgical correction. Since Haight and Towsley performed the first successful repair in 1947, many successful repairs of esophageal atresia. With tracheoesophageal
fistula
have been reported. Recently, we experienced a case of esophageal atresia with distal tracheoesophageal fistula in a one day infant who presented copious salivations and mild dyspnea. We confirmed the diagnosis of esophageal atresia with distal
tracheoesophageal fistula by chest and abdomen plain films showing markedly distended upper esophagus which contains a curved nasogastric tube and gas-filled intestines. The operation was performed transpleurally through 4th intercostal space,
and
a
single layer technique with sutures passing through the full thickness of both the lower and upper esophageal segments was used. The patient tolerated all operative procedure and recovered uneventfully, and was well-being.
